Hi, I’m John Thomey, founder of UrbanTech, a newsletter and podcast.

Broadly speaking, UrbanTech’s focus is analyzing how the innovation economy (tech) intersects with cities in both positive and negative ways.

Prior to going back to school, I worked in politics and tech as a press consultant. I worked for state and local officials, real estate developers, tech startups, and non-profits.

I’m building Urban Tech to be an original source for innovation-focused analysis of the trends, companies and people, impacting cities and how we experience them.

UrbanTech is currently read by 1,000 individuals each week.

Subscribers include reporters at national publications like The New York Times and The Wall Street Journal; writers at new media organizations like Axios, Morning Brew, and The Information; venture capitalists; startup founders; tech employees; and professionals across residential and commercial real estate.

Urban Tech has been featured in Politico and other media outlets.

I send the newsletter out weekly on Thursday mornings between 8:30-10:30 am ET.

Feel free to reach out to me with any questions or thoughts! You can also follow me and Urban Tech on Twitter.
