Subject: Urban Tech Product Memo #1 (12/1/20)
As Urban Tech (UT) continues its evolution, we want to offer a single source of truth to provide critical UT product updates. We will use this product memo series to keep our regular content focused on city and tech analysis. UT will be tracking these memos and updates for the community in this shared database.
Welcome to the first UT Product Memo. I hope it’s clear why we created this series. Frankly, I hate navel-gazing, and I want to keep our regular content focused on great analysis — not our product updates.
That said, we need a place to share important updates so you can maximize Urban Tech’s work; also so we can keep growing to provide you a better experience.
Before the big podcast item, a quick heads-up:
Thursday’s edition will feature Urban Tech’s first-ever guest post. The post will be from Micah Kotch, the Managing Director of URBAN-X, an accelerator for startups reimagining city life. The accelerator was created by MINI (the same one that builds the MINI Cooper) and Urban Us. Micah is going to share his thoughts about how the Biden administration can make progress on energy resiliency and climate action.
As our community grows, bringing in brilliant guests to share their insights with you is one of my main objectives, a great segway into the Urban Tech Podcast.
I’m excited to share that the Urban Tech Podcast feed, the podcast’s first trailer, and a video version of the trailer (all embedded below) are now live. The podcast is available on Apple, Spotify, Amazon, and pretty much anywhere you find podcasts. Please subscribe and share the trailer with your network!
We wanted to do the video version of the trailer in the spirit of multimedia storytelling and trying new things. The subject areas we focus on, the intersection of cities and tech, lend well to visual and audio content. Cities have a lot of sights and sounds!
You should think of December as the pilot phase for the Urban Tech Podcast. We will drop 1-2 more trailers during the pilot and some bite-sized episodes (5-20 min) as we ramp up going into 2021. By the end of January, we will fully launch the podcast and be off to the races. We will publish at least one episode a week to accompany the Monday and Thursday UT newsletters.
I hope you liked this sneak peek. I’m deep in the process of building out the content pipeline, including booking conversations and interviews with thoughtful folks.
I think UT’s audience is about as thoughtful and insightful as it gets, so let me know if you’re interested in chatting with me! You can reply to this email, email me at John@urbantechnews.net, or fill out this quick form.
A final reminder/ask to please share the Urban Tech podcast and our newsletter so we can keep growing our community.
We are very close to 500 unique subscribers, and as we start to pivot toward the next milestone of 1,000 subscribers, I really need your help to make it happen 🙏.
Thanks for checking out the podcast. I hope all of these details are just more examples of why you should be excited about Urban Tech's work.
I genuinely believe we are starting to hit our groove, meaning the stories, conversations, and analysis will only get better. Thanks for letting Urban Tech share our city and tech musings with you each week.
